Recognizing outstanding team members who go above and beyond every single day.

Ciarrah Waukon's BT of the Month certificate
Ciarrah Waukon
Arizona
Nominated by Hulika Aydin, BCBA
BT Ciarrah has been with a client who initially did not even tolerate her being nearby. Over time, through patience, persistence, and strong rapport building, the client now actively invites her into their space, play, and world.

Parent has also reported noticeable increases in communication, play, and overall day-to-day functioning within the family. Ciarrah's commitment to her clients and ability to build meaningful connections has made a huge difference in the client's progress.

Adaysha Milner holding her BT of the Month certificate
Adaysha Milner
Arizona
Nominated by Olivia Myers, BCBA
She has been so amazing accommodating schedule changes and throughout remaining positive that she taught her client to say Mom the first time! Mom couldn't have been happier!
Sarah Taylor's BT of the Month certificate
Sarah Taylor
North Carolina
Nominated by Asia Bennett, BCBA
This month Sarah demonstrated outstanding clinical skill and resilience while advancing a highly challenging toilet training target with her client.

The client experienced a period of intense resistance, including frequent avoidance behaviors and emotional dysregulation during scheduled bathroom transitions. Instead of letting momentum stall, Sarah remained incredibly calm, patient, and strictly adhered to the behavior intervention plan. They skillfully paired the bathroom environment with high-density reinforcement, systematically faded prompts, and accurately captured data amidst high-rate behaviors. Thanks to her consistency the client overcame the regression, resulting in an increase in successful independent voids and a significant reduction in transition-related challenging behaviors by the end of the month.

Reonna Bullard's BT of the Month certificate
Reonna Bullard
North Carolina
Nominated by Sarah Messick, BCBA
Reonna has demonstrated exceptional performance this month through her consistency, professionalism, and ability to implement feedback effectively.

After making adjustments to the quality of attention provided during sessions, the client showed an immediate and consistent decrease in challenging behaviors, including aggression and task refusal. The client also demonstrated increased functional communication and greater social engagement with Reonna during reinforcement activities and play. Overall, both session quality and client data have looked significantly different due to her hard work and dedication.

Isabel De La Cruz's BT of the Month certificate
Isabel De La Cruz ("Izzy")
Southern Region
Nominated by Jessikah Shirley, BCBA
Izzy demonstrates extreme flexibility in attending in-home sessions and in-clinic sessions with her client to address barriers in home. Izzy consistently implements all programs for her client in a positive and fun way that makes her client want to engage with her.

She shows compassion in all areas by interacting with her clients on their levels and with things that they enjoy. Parents let me know that their child consistently wakes up and asks for her and to go see her, even on the days they don't have sessions. Izzy interacts with others in the environment to show positive interactions to her clients and models how to engage with others in fun ways.

Karissa Goula
Karissa Goula
Texas
Nominated by Cristina Bravo, BCBA
Karissa has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance since day one. She brings resilience and a positive attitude, approaching each session ready to give her best effort.

We are truly fortunate to have her as part of the team.

Kassandra Garzon holding her BT of the Month certificate
Kassandra Garzon
Nevada

She also maintains clear and timely communication with the telehealth BCBA and fellow RBTs, ensuring that any changes within the household are effectively shared with the entire team.

ShaCari Cobb
ShaCari Cobb
Georgia
Nominated by Shannon Roundtree, BCBA
ShaCari has been an amazing team player. She stepped up to provide coverage for an additional client when an RBT transitioned off the case to ensure no lapse in service.

The client she covered made exceptional progress over the course of 30 days as she provided services. She has gained an increase in instructional control which has contributed to the reduction in the client's elopement behavior and an increase in his expressive and receptive communication, ability to tolerate transitions, and delayed or denied access to tangibles in lieu of engaging in challenging behaviors.

Alicia Lee with her BT of the Month certificate
Alicia Lee
Utah
Nominated by Amanda Smith, BCBA
For providing such genuine care to your client by empathizing and showing compassion to the natural growing pains of a toddler while also implementing safety protocols and behavior modification programs with fidelity.

A short and heartfelt nomination, the kind that says it all in one breath.

Abrianna DeHammer BT of the Month certificate
Abrianna DeHammer
North Carolina
Nominated by Rylee Tuggle, BCBA
She is invested in bringing the clinic together as a team! She put together Autism Awareness Day, orders the group food, gets the gifts, and goes above and beyond for the team.
Makayla Lawson BT of the Month certificate
Makayla Lawson
Arizona
Nominated by Alesha Kimbrell, BCBA
Makayla effectively managed a challenging situation with a high behavior learner. She remained calm, followed the behavior intervention plan with fidelity, and implemented de-escalation strategies.

During instances of escalated behavior, she supported the learner in returning to a regulated state. Makayla consistently maintained safety, provided appropriate redirection, and reinforced alternative behaviors, resulting in successful recovery and continued engagement in programming.

Angelica Chavez BT of the Month certificate
Angelica Chavez
Colorado
Nominated by Victoria Residori, BCBA
Despite many unique challenges related to staff turnover and frequent schedule changes, Angelica has shown that she is a reliable and consistent member of the team every day.

Angelica demonstrates a high level of professionalism when speaking with families, supervisors, and colleagues. We recently lost an RBT for these sibling clients and Angelica offered to adjust her schedule to be able to work with both siblings by splitting their sessions in half, ensuring both siblings are still receiving ABA services. The family has reached out on numerous occasions to express deep appreciation for Angelica and her flexibility to put her clients first and support continuity of care!

As the title sponsor of America's largest special needs & homeschool expo, Treetop set up shop at the Phoenix Convention Center for a full day of meeting Phoenix-area families, handing out resources, and making space for kids to play. The team ran developmental screenings, walked parents through what ABA actually looks like, and (somehow) kept up with a non-stop crowd of little ones.

Huge shoutout to the crew that made the day happen. You showed up, you stayed, and you represented Treetop with so much heart.

The RBT award goes to Chelsea for her compassion, quality of care, and client dignity. On Friday at the center, one of her client's peers had vomited all over herself and the floor around her. Chelsea remained calm and supportive.

Her client was also concerned and kept checking on the peer to make sure she was okay. Chelsea then helped the peer get clean clothes and continued to empathize and show support, letting her know it wasn't her fault and that it happens. Chelsea's client, who has extremely limited expressive communication, was even asking the peer if she was okay and continued to check on her. This was such a caring and compassionate response, and it reminds me how much genuine support is being provided here. We are lucky to have a team that truly cares about the health and wellbeing of these kiddos. This isn't “just a job” for them.

Where to begin with Jeannie! She is a superstar and a real joy on my team. Incredibly flexible and super accommodating, she's a true team player who has stepped up for last-minute initial assessments, even when it required driving into the clinic.

She's always happy to support and isn't afraid of a challenge, scheduling 9 initial assessments in a week. I reached out to her today and asked if she could support a clinic BCBA in writing up a treatment plan, and she was totally down to help. It is a real pleasure working with Jeannie!

No matter how big or small the situation, she shows up with patience, professionalism, and real care. It makes a difference working under someone who not only knows their craft but genuinely supports the people around them. Thank you for being consistent, dependable, and a true leader. I appreciate you more than you know.

I want to give Terrica a huge shout-out because she comes in every day and goes above and beyond for each of our kiddos and technicians. She has worked hard to make sure our clinic has learning opportunities all over the walls.

Colors, shapes, farm animals, and more. All of those are great ways for technicians to do NET while transitioning, or even help calm behaviors down while in the hallways.

When there are uncertainties and lack of hours due to families' ever-changing schedules, Sam has always been there to provide support through new clients, fill-in sessions, and extra work possibilities. Sam has been my rock throughout my time at Discovery.

Before the merge of Treetop and Discovery, Sam was always extremely helpful when I had a question, and now with the merge, his transparency about the new changes has made it a smooth transition.

I had the privilege of meeting Sheena before joining Treetop a few years ago. Sheena has always had this amazing skill of multitasking and balancing all of the things. I genuinely do not know how she does it, and she is the true definition of a leader.

Sheena supports our team in everything we do, providing a space for us to give feedback on what is working and what isn't, share our highs and lows, and grow by challenging our determinations. Sheena is genuinely what makes this field great. She is always striving to make ABA a better field for families and clients while also leading her team to be better analysts and leaders. Very thankful for all that Sheena brings to our company, this field, and my growth as an analyst.

Julie LaForge

Julie LaForge

Director of Executive Recruiting
New Jersey • Newest Treetop Leader

Where life happens: New Jersey, near the beach, with my husband, our three kids, and our dog George.

Two of the kids are in college and the youngest is in high school. Time flies. Honestly, the dog probably gets the majority of my attention, he doesn't talk back. We're all counting down to summer.

My path to recruiting started in the fast-paced world of Washington, D.C. politics, a background that taught me early on how the right people in the right seats can change everything.

Since then I've spent nearly two decades honing my craft: 10 years in investment banking recruiting, then the last 7+ years dedicated to ABA recruiting. Different industries, same core obsession, getting people into the seat where they actually belong.

When I first looked at Treetop, two things stood out immediately: the caliber of the people and the integrity of the mission. Because we are BCBA-led, there's a refreshing focus on high clinical and ethical standards.

Right now I'm in deep-dive mode: getting to know our incredible team, mastering our platforms, and speaking with BCBAs about some of our exciting opportunities.

I don't just want to fill a role, I want to help a BCBA find a home for the next several years.

What truly lights me up is the long game. I'm a firm believer that retention is a much more valuable metric than a quick hire. I view my role as a consultant for both the candidate and Treetop, ensuring a match is built on long-term happiness and clinical fit.

By prioritizing fit and retention over speed, we make sure our clinicians are happy and our families receive the consistent, high-quality care they deserve.

Currently obsessed with: matcha lattes and my dog George. (Sorry hubby and kids.)

Fun fact most people at Treetop don't know yet: I had to think about this so long that I'm now genuinely concerned about my overall fun factor. Going with a travel story.

I once spent two weeks in Siberia for work. November. The pre-trip travel alerts told us to leave our contact lenses at home, they were "at risk of freezing to your eye balls."

I left them behind and can confirm: it was that cold. Inside, outside, all of it freezing. The heat couldn't keep up. The local solution? They turn to vodka as an alternative. 🥶

She was so flexible with parents' schedule when the start date had to be pushed back a few days. When she finally got to start with the client, she ROCKED pairing with the kiddo!

She accepted the client for exactly who they are and how they like to play! After session she immediately texted me things she noticed about behavior, skills, and conversations with parents that could help me as a BCBA. She walked 2 miles in a snow blizzard to make sure she showed up for our client's session. She doesn't drive in the snow, so she chose to walk.

“Bye Bye Bye!”

My evening client has very little verbal skill due to the first year and a half of his 2 years of life being in the hospital. Within just a month, his motivation to talk and learn has increased dramatically with just the littlest bit of praise.
Lately we have been working on saying Hello and Goodbye as it is a skill deficit. During the end of one of my sessions with him, I was saying “I'll see you Monday!” while giving tickles when suddenly, without any prompts or me saying bye, he said “Bye bye bye!” independently. He even waved! It was his first time doing both and I most definitely cried in the car after with how proud it made me feel.

“Regulated AAC Communication”

During today's session, the client initially presented with elevated agitation after limited sleep the previous night. Early in the session he engaged in aggression following denied access to preferred outdoor activities due to unsafe weather.
The provider utilized low-demand pacing, neutral affect, AAC-supported communication, proactive regulation monitoring, and structured break opportunities to support regulation and functional communication. The client independently used AAC to request breaks, food items, hygiene needs, transitions, and to communicate “all done.” A meaningful moment came later when he independently communicated “my room” using AAC and then appropriately waited for a preferred lunch item without maladaptive behavior. By the end of the session, the client was calm, regulated, and successfully engaging in functional communication after beginning with significant dysregulation.

“From Hurdles to Genuine Joy”

My success story centers on a client's immense progress in functional communication, engagement, and overall independence. We have successfully shifted from navigating big behavioral hurdles to experiencing sessions where the client genuinely enjoys their time.
I am witnessing meaningful daily improvements, from increased verbal articulation to stronger emotional regulation during transitions. This progress has been recognized across the board, caregivers frequently share feedback on how great the impact has been at home, and my BCBAs have noted the strong clinical gains during supervision. Knowing that these emerging skills are building a foundation for them to succeed independently without me is the most rewarding part of this work.

“From One-Word Mands to Two-Word Phrases”

Over the last several months, we have been consistently working on expanding my client's communication and expressive language skills. During the first year of working with him, he made significant progress by beginning to mand using both vocalizations and his AAC device with one-word requests.
More recently, we have been targeting two-word mands to further increase functional communication. Through consistent modeling, Functional Communication Training, and Natural Environment Teaching, he gradually began using two-word requests more independently. He now consistently requests food using phrases such as “want snack” or activities like “play bubbles.” One of the most exciting areas has been pretend play, where he is beginning to engage in simple conversations and reciprocal communication. Improved communication has helped reduce episodes of frustration that previously occurred when he was unable to express his wants and needs. Even on more difficult days, he is now able to communicate his needs, including requesting breaks or even a nap independently.

“Asking and Waiting for the Toy”

Client is now able to ask for the toy and wait for it to be given to him when his sibling takes it away.

“Communication Replaced Frustration”

This week, the win was watching communication replace frustration. During a difficult moment, the client was able to use his AAC device to express needs, accept support, and return to engagement with calm pacing and low-pressure prompting.
Instead of the session being defined by escalation, it became a moment of functional communication, regulation, and trust. That progress matters because every independent communication attempt gives the client more control, more dignity, and a stronger path forward.

“Shy and Quiet to Preschool Graduate”

When I started with my client almost two years ago, he was shy and quiet with emerging play skills. He slowly started becoming more confident with talking and play around me, and that encouraged him to try new games and play styles.
Last year he started preschool, which gave him the chance to be around other children his age consistently. This caused him to blossom in so many aspects of his life. He made his first best friend, tried new foods, became brave in situations that make him nervous, and became the teacher's helper. He is always willing to tell us how he feels and what he wants. He loves making jokes with his friends and has full conversations with them. He has made such incredible strides that he is now getting ready to graduate preschool.

“Bye Bye”

A new client who would only talk with family, never at school or with techs, told me bye bye. Mom said, “I think she likes you.”

“Music Class, All In”

Today my client participated in music class for the first time. He usually sits in the back and never participates, so I used pre-teaching before we walked in. I explained ways he could participate and that the more he joined in, the more points he'd earn toward a reinforcer at the end of the day.
He didn't just participate, he participated the entire class. He played an instrument and followed along, was so proud of himself, and earned enough points to take home a bigger prize that afternoon.

“Rapport Through Assent”

Since starting services together this month, the child and David have built a positive rapport. During teaching opportunities, David appropriately recognized and honored the child's assent withdrawal through signing, preventing escalation to high-intensity behaviors while demonstrating compassion and fostering a strong therapeutic relationship.

“Sessions Change in Seconds”

My biggest lesson this week was learning that ABA sessions can change in a matter of seconds. One moment we were transitioning to the playroom, the next I was helping manage an unexpected bathroom accident in the hallway. It wasn't the session we planned, but it reminded me that flexibility and staying calm are real skills in this field.

“Learning From Other Techs”

This month I had the opportunity to shadow several different technicians and clients in the clinic. Watching different teaching styles and behavior strategies helped me grow as an RBT and gave me new ideas to bring into my own sessions.

“Small Wins Are Still Wins”

This month I was temporarily assigned to a new clinic client. Building rapport was challenging at first, but by slowing down, following his lead, and focusing on connection before demands, I saw meaningful moments of trust begin to develop.
It reminded me that small wins are still wins, and that the work of pairing and rapport is just as important as any program goal.

“A Big May for Me”

I started May as my client's long-term home RBT. Then within a few weeks I entered the clinic, shadowed multiple BTs, learned new clients, adapted to new supervisors, handled double supervision, managed clinic procedures, and built rapport with a brand-new client.
All while continuing to support my original client successfully. That's a substantial professional expansion in a very short period of time, and I'm proud of how I've stretched myself this month.

“Growth Outside the Comfort Zone”

My biggest win this month was professional growth. New clients, new supervisors, and new clinic experiences pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me build confidence as an RBT. Growth often happens when we're willing to learn something new.

“Daily Hygiene Independence”

My client has shown significant improvement in his daily hygiene skills! He is now brushing his teeth independently every day, even sometimes on weekends.
He is also beginning to clean up his messes, as well as showering consistently twice a week!

“Finding His Words”

My client used to communicate his wants and needs primarily by pointing to items. Through consistent, targeted work on verbal communication goals, he has made wonderful progress.
He now uses his words more frequently and confidently to request his preferred items and activities.

“Rapport, Regulation & Real Progress”

At the beginning of services, the client demonstrated significant difficulty tolerating the technician in close proximity. Rapport building required a gradual, client-led approach using preferred activities and low-demand interaction.
Sessions were also impacted by inconsistent attendance related to sleep difficulties. Early sessions prioritized helping the client remain happy, relaxed, and engaged while gradually strengthening communication and tolerance for shared interaction. Since then, the client has made meaningful progress in regulation and participation. As sleep patterns have improved, sessions have become more consistent. The client now independently calls the technician by name, seeks interaction more consistently, and shows increased vocalizations, more frequent social initiation, and spontaneous communication, including pointing to the area where the technician had been sitting and labeling “CC” after the technician left. Generalization is also emerging across people and environments, the client has begun imitating the technician during play and has been observed running goals with her sister. Family reports similar gains at home, including increased communication, responsiveness, and social engagement 🌱

“Longer Focus, Better Participation”

The client remained engaged in structured activities for longer periods and responded well to reinforcement, demonstrating improved participation.
Small steps, real progress, this is what consistency looks like.

“Finally Connecting”

My client has had difficulty in connecting or pairing with people. I have successfully paired with him and his parents have shared that he eagerly looks forward to our sessions.
Seeing a client who once struggled with connection now light up when it's time for therapy is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

“Back to School on 24 Hours’ Notice”

Our client was temporarily suspended from school due to behavior reports, and school required an ABA tech to accompany him before returning. Tina rearranged her schedule and jumped in to conduct a clinical assessment on less than 24 hours notice.
She reviewed the documentation and target behaviors ahead of time, came prepared with ABC data sheets and her fingerprint card, and maintained client dignity by staying in the back of the class with HIPAA-compliant observations. She took the time to interview each teacher for target behaviors, collected data, and provided a written summary of her observations on a time-sensitive assessment. Her observations were used to develop a treatment plan that permitted the BCBA to advocate for the client to return to school, which was approved due to the clarity of the data. Tina then provided support in developing teaching aids and stimuli to maintain client success.

“‘Love You’ Without a Prompt”

My client independently says “love you” to his mom when she says it to him during drop off. In the past, I would have to verbally prompt him to respond back.
Seeing his mom light up in happiness when he's able to independently respond is heartwarming.

“Patience, Practice, Progress”

I've had my client for about 6 months now and he has made significant progress from when we first started. A big shout out for finally being able to successfully void on the toilet after many months of patience and practice!
The kind of milestone that changes daily life for the whole family, and one that only comes from months of consistent, patient work.

“She’s Talking to People Again”

Our girl's taking interest in the outside world, and she's loving it. She has thanked us for helping her because now she talks to people. She has learned to play new games and can be heard giggling with friends at the clinic.
We have observed a significant decrease in vocal and visual stereotypies, resulting in a vast increase of social involvement with peers and adults. She remains on par with her peers academically, so this is but a small piece of her puzzle. We help them grow. We help them connect with their families and communities. We help their families and communities connect with them.

“Three Months of Meaningful Growth”

Over the past three months, I have had the privilege of working closely with my client and witnessing truly meaningful growth in her skills and independence. When we first began, she faced challenges with communication, transitions, and engaging in functional replacement behaviors.
Through consistent implementation of her behavior intervention plan, use of natural environment teaching, and a strong focus on building rapport, she has made significant and measurable progress. She has shown notable improvement in her ability to communicate her needs, tolerate transitions with fewer maladaptive behaviors, and engage more independently in targeted tasks. Skills that once required full prompting are now often completed with minimal to no support, reflecting not only her progress but her confidence as well. Beyond the data and goals, the impact on her family has been just as powerful. They have gained tools, confidence, and hope in supporting her continued development. Although I am preparing to return to Georgia, it is bittersweet to say goodbye. I am so proud of everything she has accomplished in such a short time, and I feel grateful to have played even a small role in her progress.

“Coping With Confidence”

We work a lot with coping with bullying at school, teaching her how to respond to different scenarios. She has gained so much confidence overall and it has been beautiful to witness.
She has identified different responses based on whether they are speaking to her, about her, and what to do if she is ever involved in a physical incident. She has also named people who she recognizes as “safe” people in her world and she says it has made her time at school feel happier in general.

“Passing State Inspection as a Team”

Passing the Utah State Licensing Renewal Inspection for our West Jordan Clinic! With the help of every team member, we were able to get everything we needed for a successful inspection.
Big thanks to Dr. Jamie Severtson (RCD), Mandy Davidson (OM), Kasey Corbridge (CD), and every technician and behavior analyst. The team felt every bit of stress from leadership and we appreciate their patience and dedication to ensure we had everything needed for our inspection. We passed on our first try and we couldn't have done it without the effort of the WHOLE team! A big THANK YOU to everyone.

“From Quiet to Connected”

When services began, the client was quiet, withdrawn, and mostly engaged in solitary play with limited interaction. Within just a few weeks, change began to emerge.
The client started becoming closer and using physical initiation to communicate needs. We used these moments to build motivation and teach appropriate manding skills. Since then, progress has been great. The client now actively participates in sessions, engages in activities like coloring and cause-and-effect play, and shows increased attention and willingness to interact and learn. The family is very encouraged by the rapid progress and is highly satisfied with the improvements seen in communication and engagement.

“Building Adult Independence”

Working in in-home ABA has really broadened my perspective on the impact of what we do. The client I'm currently serving is 14, and we've been focusing on building her independence. In a relatively short time, she has made meaningful progress, especially with toileting.
I've also loved seeing an increase in her spontaneous use of her AAC device, along with her growing interests and her ability to advocate for herself. These moments feel especially significant because they directly support her quality of life now and in the future. Being part of someone's progress in ways that will truly serve them into adulthood is deeply rewarding. Working primarily on adaptive skills with this client has shifted my perspective and will influence how I approach future sessions. It's reinforced for me that these skills are just as important, if not more so, than the foundational skills we often emphasize in early intervention.

“Never Back Down”

God had me working with special needs children when I was just 22 years old to prepare me for a special needs child on my own, my son. This is his story, and mine.
When my son was 2 years old, me being a parent in denial, I was told he had autism, that there was no cure, that I had to help him learn to live with this. I began to do my research, going to the partnership for children, volunteering at every school my son attended. My son has mastered reading EOG, he learned how to talk when he never did (with my help and My Baby Can Read), I potty trained him at 5 years old, helped with a special needs soccer lead, he ran in the special olympics, and he has had his art displayed in the very special art festival for years.

When my son turned 8 he suffered a seizure that caused him to hit his face. Me, being a married mother of 3, was dealing with difficulty within my marriage because my son was special needs, so I ended up doing everything alone. I began making wigs for children and adults who lost their hair to illness, and worked 2 other jobs to get my son all the therapy he needed because Medicaid wouldn't cover everything.

I want to tell you that there is hope for your child but you have to stop holding back the challenges your child will face and stand up to fight for them. My son overcame so much. The biggest challenge he faced was September 2023, his senior year of high school, when he was brutally assaulted for standing up for himself by 5 individuals. Being followed into danger left him with a permanent broken finger, a concussion, a seizure, and PTSD. My son is 20 now, trying to piece back his life, and we are still fighting for justice. So parents, never back down when it comes to any of your children. Keep your head up and stay focused. 💯

“Smoother Transitions, Stronger Communication”

This week, the client demonstrated improved tolerance and communication during transitions. The client independently used his AAC device to request preferred activities, including a stroller ride and swing time, following brief prompting.
Regulation improved after short breaks, and the client returned to engagement without escalation. Staff maintained neutral affect and proactive reinforcement, which supported smoother pacing and reduced attention-seeking behaviors. Overall, the client showed increased participation, clearer communication, and improved recovery following moments of dysregulation.

“From Aggression to ABCs”

When I started with my client he had very high aggression, was pretty much non-verbal, and could not tolerate waiting. This week he has been singing his ABCs, vocally manding to go outside/inside independently, and using his visual prompts fully independently to tell us yes or no.
His aggression has decreased significantly since adding in communication. He’s now talking all the time at daycare as well as at home. He used to be unable to wait for snack time. Every day this week he has independently picked another activity while waiting for snack! So proud of this little guy.

“Saying ‘Mommy’ Without a Prompt”

During a recent session, the client demonstrated a meaningful and spontaneous communication milestone. The client independently approached the door and vocalized “mommy” without prompting. When the caregiver entered, the client looked directly at her and said “mommy” again, this time in her presence and still without prompting.
The caregiver became emotional and expressed how meaningful it was to hear her child use that word independently. This moment reflects significant progress in the client’s expressive communication skills and generalization of language across environments and people. It also highlights the effectiveness of consistent communication-focused interventions, including modeling, reinforcement, and natural environment teaching (NET). This achievement represents not only skill acquisition but also an increase in social connection and meaningful interaction between the client and caregiver.

“Smooth Goodbyes, Big Wins”

Transitions are a struggle for many, and in my case my client struggles with transitions among settings and activities the most. I have had this client for a few weeks now, and building rapport has been the strongest glue to holding things together and making transitions easier opportunity after opportunity.
After obtaining suitable coping skills and pairing them with visual and Premack principles, my client has shown a huge decrease in maladaptive behaviors and increased use of skills, while also accepting change after change. Highly and consistently praising my client for his success in having smooth transitions has become so motivating that the toughest transition (going home) has been observed occurring with zero interfering behaviors. Woo hooo!
